Plan for a fireworks ban from New Year’s Eve 2023/2024 in Eindhoven

If it is up to the municipality of Eindhoven, residents are no longer allowed to light fireworks from the turn of the year 2023/2024. The college has announced that. It was recently announced that there will be no national ban yet, to the disappointment of Eindhoven: “A missed opportunity.”

At the end of last year it was already announced that the municipality was lobbying in The Hague to enforce a national ban. Eindhoven did this together with a number of other Dutch municipalities.

So without success: there was still no majority for the proposal in the House of Representatives. There they first want to see the effect of the earlier ban on flares and heavy bang fireworks. Due to the unusual changes in the corona virus over the past two years, there would be no clear picture of this.

Alternative to fireworks
Nevertheless, Eindhoven now decides no longer to wait for national policy. If the plans of the council go ahead, residents will be able to get to work for the last time during the coming New Year’s Eve. For the following year there must be alternatives to the fireworks. It is not yet clear exactly what that should look like.

It remains to be seen whether the target will be achieved. The college is currently investigating the planned fireworks ban. For example, it is examined whether there is sufficient support among the residents, whether a ban can be enforced and what the lost income means for local fireworks sellers.

Last month it was announced that there will be no national fireworks ban yet:
