Plan for 90 apartments in the center of Emmen

About ninety apartments and six city villas. That is the plan for a vacant piece of land on the Wilhelminastraat in Emmen. There is still a house on the three-quarters hectare site, but it will soon be demolished.

According to developer Jan Brands, of Brands Bouw, this is “currently the largest inner-city development in Emmen.” It concerns an investment of 35 million euros.

“The future buildings will be situated around a park-like inner garden,” says Brands about the plan. There will be an underground parking garage for residents.

The inner garden will consist of a green oasis, benches and space to play, such as fitness and jeu de boules. Brands is already looking ahead: “With a beautiful view of the mill, it is pleasant to stay there, without experiencing that you are in the heart of the city center.” Opposite the site is an old mill, the Molen van Beins. Only the hull has been preserved, which now houses a company.

The apartments are spread over four buildings, and all have their own characteristics. For example, a building will be built on the site of the former ING, intended for rent for middle incomes. Another apartment complex is then again for sale, one will consist of luxury owner-occupied apartments and the other is for rent. All four complexes will be almost completely energy neutral.

Brands expects construction to begin in 2024.
