Plan for 17 homes on former mavo Schoonebeek

The municipality of Emmen is busy with it. Housing plans in Weiteveen and Nieuw-Amsterdam/Veenoord have already been announced in recent weeks. Tonight it was Schoonebeek’s turn. In ‘t Aole Gemientehoes a plan was presented for 17 homes on the site of the former secondary school on the Pienhoek. The first shovel may be put into the ground at the end of next year or early 2024.

The former mavo was demolished more than ten years after it served as a teaching location for more than half a century. The municipality has always kept the land with the idea that it would come in handy.

With the current housing shortage, the piece of land has been designated as a site for housing development. The intention is to create a kind of residential courtyard that largely imitates the appearance of the old mavo. So think of flat roofs and large windows.

The location will consist of a complex with six apartments, five staggered loft homes, a two-person bungalow in the form of a bungalow and four terraced houses.

In addition, there are plans for five lots with space for a detached house and two two-person houses. But that requires some additional research.

The whole will be provided with a communal garden and a central parking lot with approximately thirty places. The entrance to the adjacent fire station is being considered as an access road to the courtyard.

Incidentally, the Pienhoek is not the only place where housing is being considered. The local supermarket Coop, which is currently located in a residential shopping block, is thinking about moving or building a new one in the current location. If this step is taken, it will offer opportunities for even more homes in Schoonebeek. These plans are just early days.
