The number of crashes in which cyclists are seriously injured or killed has increased over the past four years. During the first six months of 2022, there were 545 accidents. In 2019, there were 391 in the same period. Flemish Minister of Mobility Lydia Peeters (Open Vld) now wants to intervene more quickly. By immediately requesting the police reports, she wants to change small things on the road. “When there is a fatal accident, we want to immediately go to the site with a team based on the report to see how we can quickly adjust the infrastructure,” the minister told VTM Nieuws.
