Place three out of sight for AZ for the time being after painful defeat against FC Twente

AZ lost 1-0 to FC Twente. As a result, place three is out of sight for the Alkmaarders for the time being. Pascal Jansen’s team remains fourth. Feyenoord is third with four points more.

Static first half

Peer Koopmeiners made his basic debut at AZ. He picked up a yellow card early in the game. In the first half, both teams had few chances and hardly any shots were fired on goal. Dani de Wit was centimeters short to nod the ball towards Twente keeper Lars Unnerstall. In the 30th minute Daan Rots scored for FC Twente, but that goal was disallowed for offside. Both teams went to the locker room without scoring.

Life in the brewery

In the second half, trainer Pascal Jansen brought in two fresh forces. Zakaria Aboukhlal and Kamal Sowah came on the field. Vangelis Pavlidis and Hakon Evjen stayed behind in the dressing room. In the 62nd minute Joshua Brenet was sent into the depths after a beautiful pass by Gijs Smal. Brenet did not fail and rounded off nicely.

In the last 25 minutes of the game, AZ had to work. The Alkmaarders had a lot of the ball, but there were no real opportunities that were played out. Dani de Wit did get a great chance to equalize, but Unnerstall managed to grab that bet. In the final phase FC Twente defended the lead with verve.
