Pitti Uomo street style

At Pitti Uomo there is not only a lot to discover in the exhibition halls and at the stands of the represented brands, but also the style of the visitors offers a lot of inspiration. While the winter editions of the Florence-based men’s fashion fair usually feature tailored suits and tailoring, the hot summer months are often a little more casual – but this year rain threatened to throw a spanner in the works for guests at Fortezza Basso.

However, the weather forecast did not deter anyone from delivering brilliant fashion results and the men at the fair agreed on one or the other trend piece.

Bandana Bandits

This year, the guests at the Florentine fair proved themselves to be real knot artists. Not only do they effortlessly manage the perfect tie knot, they also know how to use a scarf skillfully and knotted. Bandanas and handkerchiefs adorned the necks of the men at the fair and in some places replaced both the pocket handkerchief, which was otherwise so popular, and the tie, which was still considered one of the main players in winter.

The scarves were seen and worn with shirts with open collars. Whether subtle and in monochrome tones or as a colorful statement, it all depended on the outfit and the colorful nature of the wearer.

Crochet and Knitting Artist

Knitwear in summer always sounds a bit contrary at first, but at Pitti you could catch a glimpse of some airy knitted and crocheted tops that proved to be an interesting alternative to t-shirts.

Whether as a knitted polo shirt or a coarse-meshed top under the jacket, or as the main actor of the outfit that draws everyone’s attention – the trend at the Pitti impressed with its versatility. Don’t be afraid of looks that are usually reserved for the world of women’s fashion – or grandma’s curtains – because these variants can look really cool with the right attitude.

Tailoring in pastel tones

Tailoring should not be missing from any Pitti edition, after all the fair is known for its Pitti-Peacocks – birds of paradise in suits. But this summer it wasn’t the smart men in classic three-piece suits that really stood out, but rather those who opted for pastel and candy-colored jackets and suits with a relaxed fit.

Pistachio green, lavender tones and soft yellow were just a few of the color variations reminiscent of gelato in an Italian ice cream parlour. The jackets made of airy linen were paired either with trousers in the same tone or with complementary colours.

Pitti Cowboys

Florence may not be the Wild West, but there were some cowboys roaming the grounds of Fortezza Basso. The cowboy hat was definitely in the foreground, but boots and spurs complement the look of one or the other trade fair visitor.

The outfits of the fair cowboys differed greatly in their formality. There were casual variants with jeans and a white T-shirt with hat, bandana around the neck and tattoos as accessories, but also in the form of light-colored jeans with a matching metal chain on the belt with a wide gilet, eye-catching sunglasses, bandana and hat. A variant with cowboy boots, denim shirt, tie and handkerchief for a light-colored suit, which was color-coordinated with the hat, was more extravagant.

rain couture

The gentlemen of the Pitti not only demonstrated their fashion skills and creativity in the sunshine. Even with spontaneous rain showers, they knew how to help themselves. White trousers and suede loafers were unceremoniously wrapped in plastic and saved from ruin, plastic sheeting became capes and hairstyles were protected from the weather with rain.
