Pippi Longstocking composer Georg Riedel has died

Georg Riedel, who composed music for Astrid Lindgren’s films, has died.

Swedish composer and jazz musician Georg Riedel is dead, reports Aftonbladet.

Born in Czechoslovakia but raised in Sweden, Riedel was 90 years old when he died.

Riedel died on Sunday, February 25 in the presence of his family. The family says that he had been ill before his death.

Riedel is especially known for his compositions for film adaptations of children’s author Astrid Lindgren’s works. Riedel composed songs for Peppi Pitkätotsu, Children of Melukylä, Vaahteramäki Eemeli and Katto-Kassinen films, among others.

Riedel worked on the Pippi Longstocking films by Jan Johansson with. Johansson’s handwriting is a favorite song Here is Pippi Longstocking.

During his career, Riedel was awarded two Grammy Awards and a Taube Scholarship.

Riedel’s daughter Sarah Riedel is also a musician.
