Actress Janine van Wely, known for her role as Plom in the children’s series Pipo the clown, is deceased. She died on Friday at the age of 84 from cancer, her family announced on Monday.
By: our entertainment editorsVan Wely became known to the general public when she played in the eighth piposeries, Pipo on Bizarra, performed the role of Mammaloe once. She then took over the role, because the VARA had a conflict with Cor Witschge (Pipo) and Marijke Bakker (Mammaloe).
In the sequel series, Van Wely was allowed to return as Plom, Pipo’s sister. She played that role until the end of the series in 1980. In the accompanying photo, she can be seen second from the right, between actors Witschge and Herbert Joeks.
Van Wely previously appeared in, among others, the Rudi Carrell Show and AVRO Music Hall. In the 1970s, she played Princess Rozelle in the TV series King Bolo. Piet Römer and Wim van den Heuvel were her fellow players.
