Fans from all over the world have adapted the Gala song “Freed from desire” to their liking: they started with bomber Will Grigg, then …
Bob Sinclar’s reaction in Padua, when during a DJ set he found himself overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of the public once he had started Gala’s “Freed from Desire”, he went around the web. Surely someone will have explained to him immediately afterwards why during the chorus, everyone shouted “Pioli is on fire”, and in the next stages in Italy, he will look forward to playing it again, but what is the origin of this choir, which has become more of the same song?
the origins
–
The song is certainly not unknown: it was released in 1997 by Gala, an Italian dance music artist, who thanks to this single has also achieved great success overseas. The first “readjustment” in the football field we find it in 2016, when a Wigan fan, Sean Kennedy, decided to publish a video on Youtube, inventing on the notes of the Gala song, the catchphrase “Will Grigg’s on fire”, complete with stanzas below adapted.
the explosion

But it is during the European Championship of the same year that the choir, taken up by the fans of Northern Ireland (national team of Will Grigg) begins to become really famous. The green tide that accompanies every Northern Ireland game singing the choir inside and outside the stadium, becomes the symbol of the entire competition, starting to replace the original version also in succession, every time the piece is played in the various clubs .
Pioli is on fire
–
There are several curves that, after the 2016 European Championship, have made that chorus, adapting it to their favorites. England has its “Vardy is on fire”, the North curve of Lazio has its “Lazio is on fire”, and so on. Without a doubt, however, it is the Milan fans with their “Pioli is on fire” who are on the crest of the wave, with the song becoming a symbol of the last season that led to the Scudetto. In fact, the chorus has been sung several times by the players too, after the most important victories and is repeated before each match, during the warm-up of the team (and the fans).
