Pink Monday in 20 photos: drag queens, puppies, Frans Bauer and Sieneke

A large rainbow procession travels through the streets of Tilburg all day long, because it’s Pink Monday again. The biggest pride event outside of Amsterdam is in full swing. That started Monday afternoon with the Pride Walk through the city center and continues all day at the Tilburg Fair. And Frans Bauer and Sieneke were also present.

Many visitors arrived on Monday with the ‘Pink Monday Express’. This train ran from Amsterdam via Utrecht and Den Bosch to Tilburg and had a drag queen as a driver. The huge crowd gathered at Central Station and then headed for the fair in a pink procession. A DJ provided music. And Frans Bauer and Sieneke were also present.

“I’m walking along to make it clear that everyone can be there.”

It seemed busier than ever this year. Dozens of spectators stood along the route with big smiles watching the hundreds of participants who passed by with rainbow flags. You see everything. From young to old, gays and transgenders to straights and leather fetishists to drag queens. Everyone has their own story to walk along with the Pride Walk.

“I’m walking along to make it clear that everyone can be there,” says one of the members of the Gay Supporting Club from Tilburg. He has also never seen it so busy. “That is very nice. Especially for people who find it exciting to be completely themselves. I hope they get strength from this.”

“Tilburg has become known because of this.”

A Tilburg girl walks along with her 14-year-old brother in the Pride Walk. He’s dressed up like drag. What did she think when she saw him like this for the first time? “Damn, he can put on make-up better than me! That’s not possible, I’m jealous!”, she says laughing. She is proud of her brother. Does she ever worry about him? “Sometimes yes, but he still bites off,” she says firmly.

An older man is watching from the side. He is there every year on Pink Monday. “It’s always fun,” he says. “The people dressed so differently. Tilburg has become known for that, for this day. Isn’t that great?”
