Käärijän’s Cha Cha Cha, which instantly became the most listened to song on Spotify in Finland, has put the classic drink Piña Colada on the lips of many. The song participating in the 2023 New Music Competition mentions the cocktail in question several times. Piña Colada may very well be one of the hit drinks this spring, at least in the UMK competition stands.
But what kind of drink is the perhaps somewhat forgotten Piña Colada? Let’s recall the history of the famous cocktail.
Piña Colada is a rum-based drink that has its roots in Puerto Rico, in the Caribbean. The drink was invented at the local Caribe Hilton hotel in 1954. The drink was developed by a bartender Ramón “Monchito” Marrero, who worked at the hotel bar for another 35 years after inventing the cocktail. Many customers of the Hilton Hotel were able to taste a cocktail made by the inventor himself.
Piña Colada was named the national drink of Puerto Rico in 1978 and has become famous all over the world.
This cocktail, if anyone, takes the mind to paradise beaches under the hot sun.
