Pim Verdouw from Sleen in action for KiKa with spinning marathon in mfc de Brink. ‘I see a lot of dramas around me’

Pim Verdouw has a warm heart for the Children Cancer Free Foundation (KiKa). The resident of Sleen wants to participate in the Giro di KiKa in June and, together with the local gym SIS, is organizing a spinning marathon in his own green village on Sunday 19 March.

Participants in the spinning marathon in multifunctional center De Brink support KiKa. You can also walk for the aforementioned charity on March 19. Athletes who participate in the spinning marathon donate 12.50 euros per hour. Walkers put in 10 euros for both the 5 and 10 kilometers in and around Sleen. The 10 kilometer starts at 11:00 AM and the 5 kilometer starts at 11:30 AM.

“Participants who last at least two hours on the spinning bike receive a sports shirt,” says Verdouw. He therefore wants to participate in the Giro di KiKa in the Italian Dolomites later this year in order to donate money through that route as well. “I have to collect at least 2500 euros in advance to actually be able to participate in Italy. That is a great challenge.”

Stelvio

The Giro di KiKa consists of five stages, many altitude meters and ends on the impressive Stelvio mountain pass. That’s pretty much on the border with Switzerland. On March 19, about forty spinning bikes will be ready in Sleen. The spinning marathon starts at 9:00 am. The last shift is from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. After that, food and drinks are ready.”

Verdouw sees ‘a lot of drama’ around him in connection with the disease cancer. “I fall completely silent when I hear that cancer also happens to children. An emotion that I now feel even more as a grandfather of two grandchildren.”

More information about participating and registering can be found here www.register.nl . Pre-registration (spinning marathon and walking) is possible until 18 March. Children’s activities and childcare will be offered in De Brink on March 19.
