Ivo de Bruin was not able to provide a surprise at the Olympics. The 35-year-old bobsleigher from Uithoorn stranded after three runs in the four-man bob as 26th.
In the third run, De Bruin scored 1.00.08 in the Yanquin National Sliding Center. That was the slowest time of all three runs. As a result, the team, with riders Jelen Franjic, Janko Francjic and Dennis Veenker, was unable to make it to the top twenty. Only the top twenty four-man bobs went through and so the adventure was over after three runs.
It was De Bruin’s first participation in the Olympic Games. The pilot initially did not qualify according to the NOC*NSF standards, but was nevertheless nominated by the bobsleigh association for the four-man bob. Earlier this week he became in the two-man bob 23rd with inhibitor Jelen Franjic.
Coach
De Bruin will no longer be a bobsleigh pilot at the next Olympics. “We have strong talented young people and maybe we will find a few ladies who can stand there. I would love it if we were there. That would be great for Dutch bobsleigh,” he said.
