It seems that Pieter Omtzigt has not yet fully recovered from his burnout. The politician misbehaved horribly on Monday evening after the live broadcast of HLF8, where he was a guest to talk about the asylum crisis. He became somewhat irritated during the broadcast when Hélène Hendriks suggested receiving asylum seekers in brothels.

Screaming Pieter

Sam Hagens, political reporter for Hart van Nederland, was present at the broadcast and saw how Pieter went completely out of his mind afterwards. “I want to tell you what I saw. Omtzigt was just not happy with the broadcast,” he told Today Inside last night.

Immediately after the broadcast of HLF8 there was a drink with the guests. “Pieter Omtzigt then became angry with one of the editors. Then they ran away in a room next door and that has escalated, you might say. He screamed quite a bit until the editor didn’t want to talk to him any further.”

Burst of rage

Johan Derksen is not surprised at all. “He has those tantrums often, doesn’t he?”

Sam: “He wasn’t happy with how the broadcast had gone. He didn’t feel well prepared, but he screamed so much that he apologized to that editor today. Personally too. I also talked to his spokesperson about it, about what exactly went wrong. He says: ‘Pieter was not having his day.’”

‘He’s a fool’

René van der Gijp thinks that Pieter is not quite in order psychologically. “Pieter is also a bit of a fool, don’t you think? I hear that from all sides.”

Wilfred Genee: “He’s quite emotional. He probably isn’t quite fit yet or something.”

Why was Peter so angry? Sam: “I didn’t see anything remarkable in the broadcast, but he didn’t feel like it went that way. It was clear that it would be about the asylum crisis and about Ter Apel. I don’t even know where it went wrong.”

Apologies

Pieter’s misconduct has now been confirmed by his spokesperson to Hart van Nederland. “He hadn’t had his day and he didn’t feel like it went well in the preparation of the program, but that can’t be a reason to get so angry,” said the press officer.

Will Pieter change his behaviour? “This will not happen again.”
