Pieter Cobelens has returned to Today Inside more than a month after his beef with Johan Derksen. “I received a lot of questions about whether I had been cancelled, but I have never been cancelled.”
It is October 10 when Johan Derksen is reprimanded live on TV by one of the regular guests of Today Inside, namely Pieter Cobelens. The former director of the Military Intelligence and Security Service puts Johan in his place, because the night before he had shouted ‘that the Jews had asked for it a bit’, referring to the Hamas terror.
Rave argument
Johan lets it all happen at that moment, but an evening later – when Pieter is not present – he counteracts in a false manner. Then he portrays the House General of VI as someone who is ‘ranting’. And that cowardly way of spouting criticism has led to resentment behind the scenes of the program.
The gentlemen decided to call each other the following weekend, after which Pieter appeared one more time in the program: “I don’t mind him saying that, but I prefer that he do it in front of me, so we have that on Sunday. just talked about it. I think that if you think something about someone, you should take it head on and not a day later.”
Peter is back
After that broadcast, Pieter did not visit VI for more than a month (!) – he was allegedly canceled by Johan – but yesterday evening he was suddenly there again. “Well, Pieter, what happened? Were you canceled or not?” Wilfred Genee asks him.
“Well, I got a lot of questions about whether I had been cancelled,” Pieter answers. “But yes, I have never been cancelled, so not now, I thought. I briefly discussed it with Johan. We called each other a few weeks ago and we came to the conclusion that we will soon do something together that we both understand.”
Smoking a cigar
What is that then? Pieter: “We’re going to smoke a cigar soon.”
Wilfred: “And then it’s good again? The peace pipe?”
Pieter: “It has never been wrong.”
Johan: “There is no problem.”
Wilfred: “Well… Pfff, there’s no problem?”
Johan: “No, there is no problem. There is no problem at all, just get it over with.”
Downplay
Wilfred then reveals: “Well, you can downplay it, but we know better of course, what happened behind the scenes. Huh, right?”
Pieter: “No.”
Johan jokes: “Yes, I punctured his tires.”
Wilfred: “Haha. Yes, among other things, yes. And that was the least of it. A lot more has happened.”
Johan concludes: “If I have to refuse everyone who disagrees with me, we will never have a guest again.”
