Piet Adema will be the new Minister of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality. This is reported by the ruling party ChristenUnie. Adema succeeds Henk Staghouwer, who unexpectedly resigned at the beginning of last month because he did not consider himself the right person to lead the ministry.
The new Minister of Agriculture was previously acting mayor in Drenthe in Tynaarlo (2013-2014) and Borger-Odoorn (2014-2015).
As a minister, Staghouwer had been under fire for some time, not only in the House but also in the sector. His plan, which was to offer farmers prospects for the future, received a very negative reception. He promised to come up with a new letter. That is still not there, because the cabinet is awaiting the outcome of talks with farmers led by Johan Remkes. Remkes will present his findings on Wednesday.
