Pierre van Hooijdonk remains welcome at sports channel ESPN, but will not be invited for broadcasts around Ajax matches for the time being. ESPN now sees no immediate need to end the collaboration with Van Hooijdonk.
The sports channel does think that Van Hooijdonk’s credibility has been damaged too much when it comes to Ajax and Maurice Steijn. That reports The Telegraph.
During a broadcast of NOS program Studio Voetbal, Van Hooijdonk had accused Steijn of ‘involvement in shady deals with befriended agents’. Van Hooijdonk later apologized for this.
“I have no evidence for my comment and I should therefore not have made that comment. I hereby take back what I said about Maurice and I apologize to him,” Van Hooijdonk said at the time.
At the NOS, Van Hooijdonk cannot be seen as an analyst in Studio Football for the time being.
