He wanted to show photos from his vacation. But a similarity to Michael Schumacher struck a chord with many fans.
Previous pictures of Michael Schumacher skiing often show the racing legend wearing a red Ferrari jacket with a Marlboro print. “Schumi” drove for the Italian racing team from 1996 to 2006, which also organized ski weeks. Schumacher’s former teammate, Felipe Massa, also wore such a jacket. Now a current driver probably wanted to make an impression on the slopes with a similar jacket, but Pierre Gasly received a lot of criticism.
The 29-year-old posted photos of himself on Instagram on Sunday. The alpine pilot can be seen on skis wearing a red jacket. You can clearly see it: the Marlboro logo. Gasly wrote about the snapshots, which also included his girlfriend: “Snowy sky.” The jacket of the current racing driver in the premier class of motorsport is strongly reminiscent of Schumacher in the past. On Instagram, users were upset about Gasly’s photos.
One person wrote: “Dude… wrong timing.” Another user expressed through a meme: “No, God, no. No. No.” A third person commented, probably referring to Schumacher’s accident: “I feel something so wrong when an F1 driver goes skiing.”
Another voice also said: “Posting that on Michael’s birthday with the red Marlboro jacket is crazy.” Although Gasly posted his photos the day after Michael Schumacher’s birthday, the campaign was not well received by many fans. Others saw it as a gesture and said: “This is a way to honor a legend.”
Seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher had a serious accident while skiing in December 2013. Since then, little has been known about the former Formula 1 star’s health. Schumacher also had his birthday on January 3rd and was 57 years old.
