It’s been two long and arduous years for festival fans and organisers. No crowds, no packed halls and no fuss before your favorite musicians perform. This summer will be different. For the first time, many concerts and festivals can take place again without restrictions. The Maifeld Derby in Mannheim is also back for the tenth edition. A total of 67 artists from all over the world have been confirmed.
Line up Thursday and Friday
The “Opening Party” starts on Thursday with the Australian rapper Genesis Owusu, the German grunge band Smoking Lips and the multi-instrumentalist Wu-Lu. Electro musician Caribou, jazz singer Arooj Aftab and newcomer Lola Young will perform on Saturday.
Line up Saturday and Sunday
On Saturday, experimental indie kings King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are allowed to take the stage. The progressive rock group black midi and the Swiss musician Emilie Zoé also play. The festival closes with Chet Faker, British songwriter Eve Owen and Down Under punk band Amyl and the Sniffers.
It is said that the festival is a joy to behold, even though the circumstances “have never been less favourable”. A lack of personnel and material as well as cancellations by artists such as Mac DeMarco would make preparations much more difficult. But there is already a replacement for the musician. Bilderbuch from Vienna are coming to Mannheim instead and will play songs from their new album GELB IST DAS FELD.
