Andrey Kurkov’s 1996 novel Picnic on the Ice was published in 2000 in a Dutch translation. Kurkov is a successful Ukrainian writer and the story of Picnic on the Ice is set in Kiev, prompting Prometheus publishing house to republish it, of which 2.50 euros of the sale price will go to Ukraine.
