Goalkeeper gets long-term contract
Everton FC can continue to rely on the services of their goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in the future. The 28-year-old’s contract, which is valid until 2024, is to be extended shortly. New head coach Sean Dyche confirmed a previous one on Thursday Times report. Accordingly, Pickford will receive a new working paper until June 2027 – without an opt-out clause and accompanied by a lucrative salary increase.
“He’s a very, very good player, a good servant of this football club and he will continue to be,” Dyche said, as quoted via “The Independent”. Pickford’s whereabouts are a “sign that he likes our new order and that he accepts what we want to offer. He’s a fantastic player and we want it to stay that way.” The head coach only took over for the Toffees on January 30 for the sacked Frank Lampard and has since won two out of three games. After 23 of 38 Premier League games, Everton are in 16th place and therefore just outside the relegation zone.
Klaassen, Lukaku & Co.: Everton FC’s most expensive purchases
Pickford switched from AFC Sunderland to the Blue and Whites in 2017 for 28.5 million euros. The keeper has meanwhile been able to increase his market value from 15 million to 40 million euros – he is now valued at 28 million euros. Pickford has made 50 appearances between the posts for England since his debut in November 2017. In addition to his personal details, the contract situation with other players also needs to be checked, Dyche hinted.
“I’ve only been here for three weeks. It feels like 17 months but it’s still new to me. We judge every situation. Some have been going on for a long time like Jordan’s,” said the coach, who had also been asked for his opinion in other cases. “We look at all situations because we have to make sure that all the good players that we want here are here.”
Sean Dyche was asked about reports of a new deal for Jordan Pickford.
