Physical decay is part of being human

Italy’s most famous fashion designer, Giorgio Armani, says he has come to terms with aging to some extent.

In the meantime, he has learned to play the “game of time,” said the 89-year-old in an interview published on Wednesday in the Italian edition of Vanity Fair magazine. “Everything changes. Nothing remains,” he said. “That is my eternal thought. I think about it when I go to bed, when I sleep and when I wake up. I think it’s part of being human. Just as physical decline is a part of us. You have to accept it.”

Armani, who celebrates his 90th birthday in July, still regularly releases collections and continues to run his eponymous company. This includes around 8,700 employees around the globe, more than 2,000 stores and a dozen factories. Throughout his life, work has always been a means of combating unhappiness, said the fashion designer. “And I would like it to continue to be that way. But it won’t stay that way.”(dpa)
