Former British Prime Minister Liz Truss talks about her last meeting with the Queen.
The meeting between Queen Elizabeth and the then newly minted British Prime Minister Liz Truss was immortalized on September 6, 2022. The walking stick used by the 96-year-old monarch and especially the large bruise on her hand made headlines.
A moment later came the sad news that shook the whole world: the queen has died.
Now Truss has told GB News details of his last meeting with the Queen. The Queen had summoned Truss to a meeting at Balmoral Castle and asked him to form a government. Queen Elizabeth did not travel to the meeting in London “due to ailments that make it difficult to move”.

According to Truss, the queen told him that they would meet again soon. Truss describes that the queen was “completely on top of the situation” in the last meeting, even though she seemed fragile.
– He very enthusiastically assured me that we will meet again soon. It was very important to him, says Truss.
Truss says he believed at the time that it would be the first of many meetings between them.
– He was very determined to carry out his duties until the end. We had a very good meeting. He was happy, Truss describes.

The next day, the queen’s health deteriorated. The Queen canceled the meeting of the National Council, in which she would have participated remotely. The doctors had told him to rest.
When the information soon reached the British administration, the message was quite ominous. Previously, the palace had not communicated much about the queen’s health.
Buckingham Palace announced on Twitter (now X) on September 8, 2022 at 20:30 (Finnish time) that the beloved monarch is gone.
“The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King (formerly Prince Charles) and Queen Consort (formerly Duchess Camilla) will stay at Balmoral tonight and return to London tomorrow, the palace said.
