Rammstein returned to the stage for the first time “after” the pandemic in spring for their continuation of the European tour. Now they opened their North American tour in Montreal, Canada on Sunday (21st August). A total of eleven more concerts are planned.
To coincide with the start of their North American tour, the first show took place in Montreal – a historic location for American and European metal acts. Rammstein first played in Montreal in the ’90s. Since then they have always returned there.
In Montreal alone, three different music festivals took place over three consecutive weekends – including the internationally renowned Osheaga, where Rammstein was also part of the program. Over 10,000 people attended the event.
Parisian duo Játékok introduces Rammstein’s concert
Rammstein’s first North American concert took place at Jean Drapeau Park. Shortly after 7 p.m. the Duo Játékok started their performance. It introduced Rammstein’s performance and literally represented the calm before the storm: the Parisian pianists played classical music for an hour before Rammstein entered the stage. The Rammstein stage set-up is said to have taken four days and was carried out by almost 300 people. Over 42,000 spectators traveled for the German metal group.
Fans felt an “overwhelming sense of shared joy”
Their performance began with the fireworks music “Music for the Royal Fireworks” – an orchestral suite by Georg Friedrich Handel, when Rammstein singer Till Lindemann came on stage. As the digitized Rammstein logo rose up on the screen in the middle of the stage and the stage lit up, drummer Christoph Schneider also took his place. Each member of Rammstein played their individual role as part of a larger whole. For more than two hours, the band treated their audience to an excessively loud and unique performance. Towards the end of the concert, the credits played in the middle of the screen. There was an “overwhelming sense of joy together” throughout the show, according to fans.
