O’Brien crashed hard at the last gate on the second run, slipped a little more and lay down. After treatment on the spot, she was taken to a hospital. There, the doctors found an open fracture in her tibia and a fracture in her fibula.
“That trap just keeps playing in my head, wishing I’d skied those last few gates differently,” O’Brien wrote on Instagram. “Unfortunately I am now here in the hospital, but I am in good hands. I am a bit devastated, but I also feel so much love.”
The unfortunate skier had set the sixth fastest time in the first run. The Swedish Sara Hector took the gold.
