Phone red hot at animal ambulance for cat in ditch, but Kees can just swim

“We rescued a cat from the water, he doesn’t look so good, can you come get him”? It is not the first time that animal ambulance Den Helder – Hollands Kroon has received this call about the infamous ‘smeerkees’ from Anna Paulowna. Kat Kees can regularly be found in the ditch, because he loves swimming. Via a call on Facebook calls on the animal ambulance not to save the swimming enthusiast anymore.

It’s quite special, a cat that likes to swim and cat Kees loves nothing more. In addition, he also spends time rolling through the mud. That is why he has been given the nickname ‘Smeerkees’.

It is therefore not very surprising that people want to save Kees, but that is not necessary at all. There’s nothing wrong with Kees, he’s just a freebooter of seven years old, who likes to swim and roll in the mud.

Dear boss

Because Kees is a Maincoon with a long coat, he quickly looks neglected. Nothing could be further from the truth. Kees has a very sweet owner who takes good care of him. It sometimes happens that people want to feed him, but according to employees of the animal ambulance, that is not necessary either: “We want to impress upon people: do not feed Kees! He is on medication and has special food. If you feed him could cause problems for his health,” their Facebook post reads.

After the umpteenth phone call, the animal ambulance decided to place a call on Facebook with the request not to call about Kees anymore. “We did this in consultation with the owner”, one of the volunteers tells NH Nieuws.

All colleagues at the animal ambulance are now aware of the grease cat. “If the animal ambulance is called, you can be asked to send a photo of the cat. If our colleagues recognize Kees, we can tell you with confidence that you can just let Kees walk.”
