Lieke Klaver has concluded the World Athletics Championships in Budapest in an appropriate manner. The athlete from Enkhuizen raced to gold in the 4×400 meter relay together with Femke Bol, Eveline Saalberg and Cathelijn Peeters in 3:20.72. That was also a Dutch record. Jamaica and Great Britain took silver and bronze.
It was a nice revenge for Klaver and Bol. They grabbed a medal in the 4×400 mixed relay in the final a week ago, after Bol fell within sight of the harbor. A historic gold medal for the Dutch athletes, because a relay team has never achieved that at a World Cup. It should be noted that the United States, seven-time world champion, was missing after a wrong substitution in the series.

Klaver won a gold medal at a World Cup for the first time in her career. She has already won silver twice. She ran her seventh race at these world championships and competed in four parts in this tournament. In addition to the 4×400 and the 4×400 mixed, she also ran the 400 flat (sixth in the final) and the 4×100 meters (did not finish in the final).
