Phenomenal Irene Schouten is also the fastest in the 5000 meters

Irene Schouten also managed to win the 5000 meters at the World Cup qualification. The skater from Hoogkarspel came into action during the last stage and was the fastest. Merel Conijn from Edam finished third and took her second starting permit at the World Cups. At the mass start, Schouten finished second, because she left the victory to teammate Marijke Groenewoud.

As expected, Schouten was also the fastest in the 5000 meters. She already won the 3000 meters yesterday. The Hoogkarspelse was supreme (6:52.193). Sanne in ‘t Hof came in second at a good distance (6:58.386). Conijn skated to a personal best and finished third.

Final mass start

The World Cup qualification ended with the mass start for the men and women. Irene Schouten was also the obvious favorite for the distance. She could also have won, but left the victory to teammate Marijke Groenewoud. The podium was completed by Robin Groot from Alkmaar. The other two tickets were also for skaters from North Holland: Evelien Vijn (Wieringerwerf) and Lisanne Buurman (Wervershoof).

With the men there was no success for North Hollanders. The best skater was Victor Ramler from Amsterdam, he finished tenth.

Other starting tickets

Earlier on Sunday, Mats Stoltenborg surprised in the ten kilometers. De Hoofddorper was third behind Patrick Roest and Jorrit Bergsma. The rest of Sunday there are two more distances on the program: the 1000 meters and the mass start.

Isabel Grevelt from Petten picked up the last ticket at the 1000 meters for women. In the men’s race there was no starting ticket for North Hollanders, Merijn Scheperkamp was the best in sixth.
