The Paris men’s fashion shows have started with a superlative show.
For the first Louis Vuitton collection by American musician Pharrell Williams, the 50-year-old transformed the oldest bridge in Paris into a huge golden catwalk with a checkerboard pattern.
Guests, as well as numerous superstars such as the pregnant Rihanna with her husband Asap Rocky, Zendaya, Beyoncé and Jay-Z, were taken by boat across the Seine to the Pont Neuf on Tuesday evening. In Pairs, almost an entire district was closed for the imposing location.
The central theme of the collection was the traditional Louis Vuitton Damier pattern, which Williams reinterpreted as “Damoflage”, a mixture of camouflage and checkerboard pattern. It appeared, among other things, on rubber boots worn with suits and shorts, on leather jackets and coats.
Following the gender-fluid influences of the late star designer Virgil Abloh, Williams also showed feminine-cut blazers, long fur coats and wrap-around skirts. The show was accompanied by an orchestra and gospel choir performing Pharell Willams’ new song, “Joy (Unspeakable)”, which he had released a week earlier.
In the end, the “Happy” singer took to the catwalk in a damoflage look. He accepted the applause before hugging his wife and four children and then performing a small concert with Jay-Z. (dpa)
