Pfeiffer Georgi wins Classic Bruges-De Panne
The day after the men, the women also rode their Classic Brugge-De Panne. And just like yesterday, the weather conditions played an important role. Not so much the rain, but the wind.
Last year’s top three were at the start with Elisa Balsamo, Lorena Wiebes and Marta Bastianelle, Balsamo and Wiebes were able to win for the second time in De Panne. No Lotte Kopecky today, so the Belgian hope rested on the shoulders of Shari Bossuyt, who won her first road race in Normandy last weekend.
Fierce wind
The strong wind took the offensive spirit out of the peloton, barely 34 per average in the opening phase, but it did cause quite a few crashes. At the first passage in De Panne we got a first timid attack from Mieke Docx from Lotto-Dstny. (continue reading below the photo)
The wind did its job and it came to fans in the Moeren. In the end, six riders remained, Pfeiffer Georgi was able to get away and rode alone to the Zeelaan.
Pfeiffer Georgi is the sixth winner of the Classic Brugge-De Panne for women. Balsamo is second, Lorena Wiebes takes bronze. Shari Bossuyt takes fifth place.
