Tennis pro Andrea Petkovic clearly missed the quarterfinals at the WTA tournament in Washington.
The 34-year-old from Darmstadt, who had returned from an almost two-week injury break in the US capital, lost to Canadian qualifier Rebecca Marino 3: 6, 6: 3, 1: 6. Marino had already knocked out old star Venus Williams (USA) in the first round on Monday.
Petkovic had recently given up at the tournament in Hamburg due to injury, but there was no longer any sign of the adductor injury on Monday in her sovereign first round win against Clara Tauson (Denmark).
The former ninth in the world rankings initially fought back strongly against Marino, but an early break in the third set pulled Petkovic out of the game. After 1:54 hours, Marino, number 111 in the world, converted her first match point.
Wimbledon semi-finalist Tatjana Maria had previously been eliminated in Washington in the first round.
