Things have not been going great for Peter Wright lately and the number one in the Order of Merit realizes that things have to change, he says on the eve of the eleventh round in the Premier League Darts.
“I told myself this week that I have to stop messing with my arrows,” Wright told the PDC. “I gave my opponents opportunities and I’m done with that. I’m very stupid with my arrows “I’ve been switching and that’s why my results are so mixed. One minute I’m throwing an average of over 100 and then on the same night I can’t get past 80. The lack of stability is costing me matches.”
,,It’s time to brace myself and throw everyone off the board with the right arrows. Important things are coming up: the Premier League isn’t long and I want to qualify for the play-offs. Then comes the World Cup and I want to play well there so that John Henderson doesn’t have to do all the work.” Wright and Henderson are the defending champions on behalf of Scotland.
The eleventh round of the Premier League will take place on Thursday evening in Aberdeen, a home game for Wright. The Scot will face Joe Cullen in the quarterfinals. ,,It’s great to come home as world champion and number one in the world. I think it’s going to be pretty special. Joe will be confident, but I come to win. That I do my work and I think I will win the match and the entire round.”
Michael van Gerwen faces Gerwyn Price, the number two in the world, in his quarterfinals. The powerhouse from Wales is only seventh in the standings and so needs the points badly.
Program in Aberdeen:
Jonny Clayton – Gary Anderson
Peter Wright – Joe Cullen
James Wade – Michael Smith
Gerwyn Price – Michael van Gerwen
