It promises to be a big one this year roast to become: the Golden Televizier-Ring Gala. Peter Pannekoek, Jan Smit’s new co-presenter, is going to hit the nominees and the celebrities present. He sat at the table with Humberto Tan last night to look ahead to the awards celebration, which will be broadcast on television tomorrow.

‘Tonight?!’

You would think that Peter has already finished all his texts, but nothing could be further from the truth. Humberto asks him in his talk show on RTL 4: “Are you already busy now? Are you ready?”

Peter then indicates that he will continue working even after Humberto’s broadcast. “No, I’m going to do some work tonight.”

Humberto is stunned. “Tonight?! Are you still going to work after this broadcast?”

Peter: “Yes, certainly. Yes, just until the last minute.”

‘Rightly so!’

Humberto is terrified by it. “What are you going to do then?”

Peter: “Writing jokes about you!”

Humberto surprised: “I have not been nominated!”

Peter then replied falsely and wittily: “No. Rightly so!”

Humberto can laugh about it. He will also not be present at the Televizier gala. “I won’t be there on Thursday. I’m on deployment.”

Milestone

Peter is genuinely thrilled that he has been asked to participate in the Televizier gala. “Talking about goals and milestones… I’m a really big fan of award shows. In America I always like the Oscars, the Emmys, the Globes. I watch it all. The tradition there is always that comedian it presents.”

He continues: “We usually don’t have that in the Netherlands, so it was always in my head: that seems like a nice challenge. That room is horrible and impossible, but I think the event could use some speed and humor. I was lurking a bit.”

Together with Jan

The combination with Jan is striking. The presenter appears to have included the Televizier gala in his contract with AvroTros, so they cannot simply replace him. Fine, Peter thinks. “I’m going to sing as little as possible and Jan is going to make as few jokes as possible. That is the most fun for the viewer.”

The Televizier gala will be broadcast tomorrow evening, immediately after the Achuurjournaal. “I always hoped to do it. I find it fun and exciting.”
