Of course, Peter Pannekoek has sometimes been more destructive, but the sharp way in which he talked the Golden Televizier-Ring Gala together was quite appreciated. His most spicy joke was about Thijs Römer and there were also light-hearted teases, for example at Angela de Jong.

Mart on the ground

Peter and co-host Jan Smit opened the gala with a kind of scene in which they were constantly dropped into different environments. One looked quite red and organic. So that was Angela’s gut. “But we had also prepared a scene that took place in a war zone,” says the comedian Show news.

That war zone then had to represent NPO 3. “Because all formats are dying there. With a Mart Hoogkamer that was lying there somewhere on the floor.”

Israel war

His program Mart op de Piste flopped terribly. Reason for a joke, but, Peter says: “Then we thought – and I still fully support that, it’s a good thing we didn’t do it: this is going to create the wrong atmosphere, especially with Israel and Palestine. We didn’t do that and I still think it’s a good idea.”

Peter says that as host of the gala he deliberately remained a bit mild. “I think it wasn’t that bad how much I destroyed people. Actually, it just makes me sleep better. The more people have been destroyed, the more peacefully I sleep. That’s counting my sheep.”

Thijs joke

He thought the joke about the contaminated showbiz name Römer was the most successful. “I wanted to talk about the past year, among other things, so that had to be mentioned as well. I can come up with some pretty harsh jokes about it, but I wanted to do it in a slightly more tactical, nicer way. I looked for it for a long time.”

Have angry celebrities sounded the alarm? “That’s the TV world, isn’t it, so people may feel offended, but they’re never going to say that until they have power over you and then they take you back.”
