According to their own statements, rock singer Peter Maffay and his family have been living in harmony with nature for a long time.

“We try to live sustainably as best we can,” he told the German Press Agency in Dresden on Monday. “It didn’t necessarily start with that term, but with an affinity for farming and self-sufficient living.”

Maffay said the decisive factor was a book that explained how to survive independently on one hectare of land. “We implemented that on a farm.”

The affinity for agriculture probably comes from his origins, his mother came from a village in Transylvania. “As a child, I always experienced these cycles during the holidays, which fascinated me.” He passes these experiences on to his children.

They also learned how to deal with animals and the subject of meat. “We’re not abstinent,” said the 73-year-old. To dogmatize the whole topic is wrong. “You should just deal with it in the right amount.” He doesn’t feel like going without a Nuremberg sausage. “But it doesn’t have to be every day.”
