Peter Gillis, the owner of the Oostappen holiday park chain, has to demolish a villa he had built illegally in Lommel, Belgium. The court in Hasselt, Belgium, has determined this on Tuesday morning. The judge does not have a good word for the reality star. The verdict refers to ‘anti-social behaviour, laziness and sheer indifference.’
The Belgian court also fined Gillis a total of 34,000 euros. And he has to pay that amount again if the holiday home under construction is not demolished within ten months. He also faces a penalty of 250 euros per day if he disregards the court’s decision. Gillis, 61, and his lawyer were not present in Hasselt on Tuesday morning for the verdict.
Crossed foot more often
The enormous building is located on the Blauwe Meer, one of the many parks owned by the entrepreneur from Ommel. The house was built in 2019 without a permit. It would be a model home. Gillis had wanted to build more of these prototypes on the Blue Lake, but that plan has now been thrown overboard.
The entrepreneur from Ommel had the villa built at a time when the then city council was well disposed towards him. He would also have been misled by an architect. Gillis says he was not aware of any harm and was counting on the permit to work out.
‘Political games’
The new council of the municipality of Lommel has a very different view of the construction and demanded that it be stopped. The court agrees. In the ruling, Gillis’s behavior is called a ‘mockery’.
The holiday park magnate can appeal against the ruling. Last week, the judge ruled that Gillis must close down the entire Blauwe Meer park within a year. The conditions under which tourists and migrant workers stay there leave much to be desired.
More hassle
Gillis is also increasingly getting zero on requests from governments in our country. In most cases, this revolves around whether or not legally housing migrant workers at its holiday parks.
His ex, Nicol Kremers, has also set her sights on the entrepreneur. She demands that all episodes of the SBS series Massa is Kassa in which she appears cannot be watched again. And at the end of August, the two face each other in court, because Gillis would have assaulted his girlfriend at the time.
