The issue of publications in the media with information about the influence of the FSB on the decision to completely ban cryptocurrencies in Russia was redirected by Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov to the Central Bank of Russia (CB), reports TASS.

“This is not the prerogative of the Kremlin, this is the prerogative of the mega-regulator, so go there,” he said, answering a question.

Previously Bloomberg citing his sources, he reported that the head of the Central Bank, Elvira Nabiullina, agreed to support the idea of a complete ban on cryptocurrencies in Russia under the influence of the Federal Security Service (FSB). According to the publication, intelligence agencies are promoting the idea of a complete ban in order to exclude the possibility of financial support for undesirable organizations and foreign media agents.

Nabiullina opposed the use of Russian financial infrastructure for transactions with cryptocurrencies in December last year and noted that the Central Bank has the opportunity to implement this. The head of the Central Bank explained that cryptocurrencies carry great risks for retail investors “due to high volatility and use in illegal activities.” According to her, the Central Bank cannot welcome investments in such assets.
