Perugia-Reggina postponed, no usability after the earthquake

There was no time for the necessary technical checks in terms of safety. Local authorities have decided to postpone the race as a precaution. The possibility of playing behind closed doors was not considered

Following the strong earthquakes on Thursday in Umbria, the Prefecture decided to postpone the Serie B match between Perugia and Reggina, which should have been played at 2 pm on Saturday at Curi, as a precaution. Precisely the conditions of the stadium, which is now approaching half a century of life (it was built in the summer of 1975 after the Umbrians were promoted to Serie A and the project for the new stadium is currently being examined) led to the postponement of the match for precautionary reasons, as there was not enough time to carry out the necessary technical checks in terms of safety. The possibility of playing behind closed doors was not considered. Further minor tremors were recorded today, but schools in Perugia will remain closed tomorrow as well. An inspection of the stadium was carried out yesterday morning and the check revealed the need to verify, through the use of vehicles and operators, the presence of any detachments from the concrete cover of the steps of the Curva Sud guests.

Unusable until March 20th

For this reason the stadium was declared unusable until at least 20 March (Perugia will play their next home match on 2 April against Frosinone, even if 25 March is indicated as a possible date for the recovery of the match against Reggina). The Municipality of Perugia also indicated in a note that “given the continuation of the seismic swarm and that a B football match involves a significant number of users, the management of any outflow is considered critical given the presence of thousands of people and the simultaneous risk of not adequately assessed secondments”.
