It’s striking how every aspect of the murderous raid in Brussels was filmed by smartphones. The ride on the moped, the shots, the ambulance… “A shocking event normally triggers a flight or fight response. But that has been replaced by the reflex to film,” experts know. Does citizen journalism also yield anything, for example for the police? “Of course, the images help to locate perpetrators. But filming victims is delicate and often punishable.”
