The show that Robbie Williams gives on Saturday night at Pinkpop can be streamed live on NPO Start. This has been announced by a spokesperson for the NPO.
Williams closes Saturday at Pinkpop with his performance. In 2015, the Briton also performed at the festival in Landgraaf in Limburg.
Pinkpop starts Friday. The festival lasts until Sunday. During the upcoming edition, 18 of the 62 acts on stage are from Dutch soil. That is the second highest number in the history of the festival, which is being organized for the 52nd time this year. Only in 2022 did more Dutch artists play in Landgraaf (22), according to an analysis by the ANP.
Dutch bands such as Di-rect and Goldband, rappers Kevin and Frenna, singer Nielson and singer Bente, among others, will make their appearance in Limburg in the weekend from 16 to 18 June. In the past ten editions, about a quarter to a third of the line-up consisted of Dutch artists. That is a considerably larger share than in previous years. Between 2006 and 2013, an average of about 15 percent of the program consisted of domestic acts.
Dutch headliner?
However, the organization does not specifically select acts from its own soil. “We book what we find relevant for Pinkpop at that time,” says festival manager Niek Murray. “It is incidental whether an act is Dutch or not. At the moment, Dutch artists are doing just fine. Many are selling out Ziggo Dome or Afas Live, which is a reflection of their popularity,” said Murray.
In 2019, the Nijmegen rock band De Staat closed the main stage of Lowlands. Goldband has the most prominent place on the main stage at Pinkpop this year, Sunday afternoon at 5.15 pm. It seems festival manager Murray ‘not inconceivable’ to one day have a Dutch headliner on the main stage at Pinkpop. “I just couldn’t name a specific name at the moment, but it fits in with how successful Dutch acts are at the moment.”
Since the first edition in 1970, 941 different artists gave 1314 performances at the oldest surviving music festival in the country. The festival experienced a growth spurt three times: in 1994 the festival went from 9 to 25 artists. In 2014, the line-up grew from 40 to 54 acts. As of 2019, 62 artists are performing. Singer Anouk performed most often on the Pinkpop stage (7 times), followed by Krezip (6). The British rock band Editors will play its sixth show at the festival in Landgraaf this year.
