Sergio Pérez has left behind last weekend’s disappointment at the Spanish Grand Prix. That said the Mexican Formula 1 driver of Red Bull on Friday in Monaco, in the run-up to the first free practice.
Pérez was instructed not to give too much trouble to teammate Max Verstappen in Barcelona when he led towards the end of the race at the Circuit de Catalunya and the Dutchman approached him on fresh tires. “Not really fair, but okay,” said Pérez after the race. Pérez had started with a strategy of two pit stops and Verstappen with one of three.
“We talked to each other after the race,” Pérez said on Friday. “I had the feeling that during the race we had a better chance with two pit stops. At the end of the race it was clear that a strategy with three pit stops was still better. When you are in the car you have certain information at your disposal . The team has a broader view.”
It is not forbidden for Perez to win, he said on Friday. “They made it clear to me that I have the full support of the team to win. They didn’t have to say that, I knew that. The atmosphere at Red Bull is excellent. In the end everyone was happy on Sunday, the team result was great.”
