The discounter Pepco remains on course for expansion. On Thursday, the chain belonging to the retail group Pepco Group NV will enter the next new market. Then the first Pepco store in Portugal opens in the city of Coimbra.
The move marks “the latest milestone in the group’s profitable expansion in Europe,” the Pepco Group said on Wednesday. The high-growth retailer had already opened up Germany, Austria, Italy and Greece as new markets in recent years.
The next stores in Portugal will soon follow the premiere in Coimbra. New openings in Albufeira and Olhão are planned for the current month, and branches in numerous other cities such as Lisbon, Porto, Elvas, Tavira, Averio and Braga are to be added by the end of the year.
Overall, the Pepco Group, which also owns the discounters Dealz and Poundland, is planning to open at least 550 new stores in the current 2022/23 financial year. Another new market is to be opened up in Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to the company group, it is currently represented in twenty European countries.
