People taken from burning funeral home Hoorn

In the clock tower of Uitvaartcentrum Dekker aan de Johannes Poststraat a fire raged in Hoorn this afternoon. The fire started on the ground floor but spread to the bell tower. No one was injured.

The fire was caused by smoldering incense. The fire started on the ground floor, but later the bell tower also burned. The fire department deployed a cherry picker.

All people present in the building have been evacuated. A number of people were also laid out in the funeral home, their bodies were brought out on time.

Pieter Dekker, the owner of the funeral home, says that the employees responded very adequately. “They saw smoke in the clock tower and went looking for the fire. It turned out that a trash can and kitchen cupboard were burning. There was a lot of smoke.”

The employees are very shocked, he says on the phone.
