People smugglers arrested, life jackets and boats found

The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee and the police arrested seven suspects on Tuesday in an international investigation into people smuggling. The arrests and searches were in Dongen, Tilburg and other places in Brabant

“We have carried out several arrests and searches in Dongen, Tilburg and other places in Brabant,” Robert van Kapel of the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee told Radio 1 on Tuesday evening. “We arrested seven people. During the searches we also found all kinds of boats and life jackets were found that were used for that human trafficking.”

Exact number unknown
It is not yet known how many people were arrested in the action. “There are still a number of actions underway. You are really talking about dozens of arrests in an international investigation between England, Belgium, France, Germany and the Netherlands. We will also hear on Wednesday what the exact number of arrests has been in other countries.”

This particular investigation took a year. The gang, which they have now rounded up, may have smuggled thousands of people across Europe. All results will be announced tomorrow in a press conference.
