People of Dutch origin live most in their own bubble, especially if they earn well

People of Dutch descent have relatively few people of non-Dutch descent in their network of neighbors, colleagues, relatives and housemates and classmates. This means they live more segregated and in a ‘bubble’ than people with a different origin. That writes the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) on Friday.

If the income of people of Dutch origin rises, they will live even more segregated lives, according to CBS’s network analysis. In addition to this group, CBS conducted research into the ten largest non-Dutch origin groups in the Netherlands between 2009 and 2020. All groups interacted most with people of their own origin, but nowhere was this more true than with people of Dutch descent. .

They were followed by people whose one or both parents were born in Morocco, Turkey or Poland. Of all the groups examined, people with origins from Germany, the United Kingdom and Indonesia lived the least segregated.
