Mayor of Maastricht Annemarie Penn-te Strake is eagerly looking forward to King’s Day in the provincial capital, but emphasizes that much still needs to be arranged.
“It is starting to bubble, but there is still a lot of work to be done,” she says in the television program L1mburg Centraal on Sunday evening.
Decisions
There are still a number of decisions to be made about the party. “As you get closer to the day, the issues get more detailed,” explains the mayor. Due to the weather conditions, it has yet to be decided whether a canopy will be placed during André Rieu’s performance and what it will look like.
Safety
Strict security checks are also carried out for the event. Penn-te Strake finds the security situation ‘exciting’. “You can never get it 100 percent and you can’t be prepared for everything,” she explains. “But it looks calm.”

In addition to the security checks carried out before the festivities, the city must also be completely cleaned the night before King’s Day.
‘to go’
Although a few things still need to be arranged, the mayor is looking forward to the event. According to her, it will be a ‘beautiful and theatrical production’. “Every part will be fantastic. After two years of corona, we will be ready in no time.”
23,000 people can be present at the route, according to the mayor. “And on the market is a big screen to follow it.”
