Young AZ beat FC Utrecht’s peers on Monday evening with two penalty kicks from Yusuf Barasi. Both goals by the talented Alkmaar striker came in the last fifteen minutes of the match. Due to the win, Jong AZ is eighth in the first division.
This game was supposed to take place on December 16, but because of the freezing cold, the game was cancelled. Without the suspended Mexx Meerdink and Robin Lathouwers who left for VVV Venlo, trainer Maarten Martens did have Myron van Brederode and Michael Lahdo. Both first team players had to gain match rhythm at Jong AZ. Goalkeeper Daniël Deen also made his professional debut at the Zoudenbalch sports park in Utrecht.

Boring first half
In the first half, both teams only created a few opportunities, but otherwise very little happened. After the tea break, the clash of promises got a little more color on the cheeks. Yusuf Barasi in particular came dangerously in front of the Utrecht goal a number of times. The top scorer of the Alkmaar talents did not have his sights sharp at the time.

Penalty kicks
That happened fifteen minutes before time. Barasi rounded the opponent’s keeper, who then fouled the striker. Barasi converted the awarded penalty kick. A few minutes before the end, substitute Soulyman Allouch was fouled. Once again it was Barasi who took advantage of the opportunity. This puts the 19-year-old attack leader on eight hits.
