Penalty kicks help Young Ajax past Jong PSV in a duel with fifteen minutes extra time

Young Ajax is third in the first division after tonight. At its own Sportpark De Toekomst, Young PSV was defeated 2-0 in a promise clash. The team from Amsterdam used a penalty twice. The match lasted more than 100 minutes due to an injury to the referee.

The first chances were for Jong PSV. Ismael Saibari could only approach Young Ajax keeper Charlie Setford, but saw his effort turned. Soon after, Dante Sealy hit the post. The team from Amsterdam was able to counter that with two possibilities for Mohammed Kudus. The Ghanaian, who normally plays in Ajax 1, shot from close range and hit goalkeeper Kjell Peersman once in his way.

Penalty kicks and lots of injury time

After the break, the score was opened by Ünüvar. He was credited for a penalty after Enric Llansana was knocked down within the box. The winger shot the ball impeccably into the left corner.

The game was stopped ten minutes before the end due to an injury to referee Michael Eijgelsheim. He was replaced by the fourth official. As a result of that incident, no less than fifteen minutes were added. Fortunately that didn’t bother Jong Ajax, because substitute Sontje Hansen decided the match in injury time. The attacker was knocked down in the penalty area and he converted the penalty himself: 2-0.

After 25 games, John Heitinga’s team is third in the ranking. The backlog leader FC Volendam is seven points.
