Peloton too slow and cars on track: police take 50 riders off course

“Two more years and we will celebrate our fiftieth anniversary. I don’t know if I still want that.” The board of Buizingen Sportief is in sackcloth. The provincial championship for women in Halle was stopped early by the Zennevallei police zone. The peloton was taken off course and the leading group of four completed one lap less. “We just made a fool of ourselves in front of Minister Ben Weyts (N-VA), alderman Pieter Busselot (CD&V) and cycling champion Albert Van Damme.” According to the police, the decision was made “in good conscience for security reasons”.
