Pellet seller in Izegem can’t keep up with demand

The sky-high energy prices are causing people to look for an alternative to traditional central heating. With winter just around the corner, the demand for pellets has risen so sharply that traders can no longer handle the orders. However, the price of pellets has also tripled.

The reason for this is still the war in Ukraine and rising energy prices.

Weekly Pricing

Pellet seller Toon Degrauwe from Izegem always worked with an order period of two weeks. It has now been eight weeks.

“In the past we always had a seasonal price, this year it has become a monthly price. And then even a weekly price difference at the end. We always had a price of 250 euros for a pallet of pellets, this year it is 800 euros,” he says.

Not cheapest

Although heating with pellets is still cheaper than with gas and electricity, this is no longer the cheapest solution at the end of the day. “1000 liters of fuel oil corresponds to two pallets of pellets. You pay 1400 euros for two pallets of pellets, while 1000 liters of fuel costs 1250 euros,” says the trader.

Meanwhile, scammers are also trying to take advantage of the pellet rush. Therefore, pay close attention when you place an order somewhere.
